Chiropractic    What can Chiropractic do for you? l Who are candidates for chiropractic? l Chiropractic possible complications

Chiropractic comes from the Greek words cheir (hands) and praktikos (efficient). It was practiced by priest healers in ancient Egypt and for centuries by Asian healers. Today, it is practiced worldwide and sometimes combined with other treatments such as massage therapy and physical therapy. Chiropractic is a non-pharmaceutical, non-surgical, hands-on approach that focuses on neuromusculoskeletal disorders with the goal to help create good relationship between the body’s skeletal and muscular structure and its functions.

Holding on to the basic concepts that illness stems from underlying “subluxations” or spinal bones that are slightly out of place and that our bodies have innate self-healing abilities, chiropractic is considered a non-invasive approach that usually involves manipulating the bones of the spine to correct medical problems. Chiropractors claim manipulating the bones of the spine can correct compressed nerves and other unnatural relationships between bones and nerves. Healthy nervous system creates balance among systems and organs, thus improves overall health. Chiropractic is a combined practice of massage therapy, osteopathy and physiotherapy that includes patient examination, diagnosis, therapeutic and rehabilitative exercise and dietary/ lifestyle counseling. Most patients seeking chiropractic care severely suffer from back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms/ legs or headache.

 Chiropractic possible complications

Chiropractic is generally safe especially when done by qualified and experienced chiropractors. The purpose of Chiropractic is to eliminate vertebral subluxations, to keep the body as subluxation free as possible. That is usually a positive adjustment that could not do harm. Every adjustment is safe. As a matter of fact, our bodies adjust themselves thousands times a day every time you move. Chiropractors step in only when your bodies are unable to adjust themselves perfectly and chiropractors help your bodies to complete those adjustments. However, patients should be well aware of these possible complications:

1. mild stiffness or soreness after treatment
2. fractures in ribs or vertebras
3. The most widely publicized but the least likely to occur of all potential side effects is a stroke that may happen after cervical manipulation
